Our Place Gets Its Special Use Permit!

After midnight on August 28th, the Village Board of Wilmette approved Our Place's Special Use Permit Application to continue operating in its current space in the church.  With about 60 supporters in blue shirts (signifying an Our Place Supporter), the Village Hall was filled with the energy and goodwill of so many of you. More were watching on TV from home.

So a BIG thank you to all for being there for us and to those who donated to the Help Our Place Stay Fund!

To date, we've received over $7,000 to help defray unanticipated legal fees and the transportation study costs. Wow, we are so grateful!

Providing special programs for special people with developmental disabilities.

Our Place Mission
Supporting teens and adults with developmental disabilities so that they can live meaningful, productive, socially connected lives in their home community.

How We Do It

Our Place targets personal growth through skills development and immersion in community life so that participants can be full members of their community. We provide intensive relationships with staff, peers, mentors and community volunteers as this is the most effective way to attain personal objectives. Activities address the components of a rich life: work, socializing, volunteer service and lifelong learning. We offer more than 40 distinct programs, with 70% in community settings.

We call our teens and adults participants because they are fully engaged in designing their days, choosing how they spend their time, setting their goals and connecting with the people they like. We think of our staff members as life coaches, assisting participants in setting and attaining their goals.
