Our Place is going before the Wilmette Zoning Board on July 18th. Please come out and show your support!

Public hearing info: Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Ave, Wilmette 2FL. After 8PM.

The Village of Wilmette is requiring Our Place to obtain a Special Use Permit to continue operating at our current location. The Wilmette Zoning Board is evaluating our petition based on our plan to manage the pick-up and drop-off procedures.

As part of that process, there is a Zoning Board public hearing on July 18th.   It starts at 7:30 p.m. BUT there are cases before us, so please come after 8PM to show solidarity and to support inclusion in our community AND wear a BLUE SHIRT.  It’s important for the Zoning Board to see all the Our Place champions!

If you have any questions or would like to support this effort further, please contact us at info@ourplaceofnewtrier.org or 847-512-4661. We want to show the Zoning Board that Wilmette welcomes everyone, including those with developmental disabilities.

Our Mission
Supporting teens and adults with developmental disabilities so that they can live meaningful, productive, socially connected lives in their home community.

How We Do It

Our Place targets personal growth through skills development and immersion in community life so that participants can be full members of their community. We provide intensive relationships with staff, peers, mentors and community volunteers as this is the most effective way to attain personal objectives. Activities address the components of a rich life: work, socializing, volunteer service and lifelong learning. We offer more than 40 distinct programs, with 70% in community settings.

We call our teens and adults participants because they are fully engaged in designing their days, choosing how they spend their time, setting their goals and connecting with the people they like. We think of our staff members as life coaches, assisting participants in setting and attaining their goals.
