The mission of Our Place is to support teens and adults with developmental disabilities so that they can live meaningful, productive, socially connected lives in their home community.
In 2008 a group of parents and community members came together to address the unmet needs of teens and adults with developmental disabilities in the northern Chicago suburbs. They created Our Place, with the mission to help these individuals achieve meaningful lives of inclusion in their home community. The primary goal is to ensure that participants develop the skills and gain the experiences they need to live independently.
We base our programs from a church community center in the heart of Wilmette, but our real program site is the community. Over 70% of activities are offered in community centers, alongside local residents.
