Position Overview:
We are seeking a mission-driven Finance & HR Manager to oversee our day-to-day administrative functions and help guide the continued growth of the organization. You’ll report directly to the Executive Director and play a key role in shaping systems, strategy, and impact.
What You Will Be Responsible For:
Financial Management
Execute daily finance operations, including accounts payable/receivable, cash flow, banking, vendor payments, and credit card management.
Track program fees, administer financial assistance, and maintain accurate records in collaboration with our third-party finance partner (Ledger).
Partner with the Executive Director, Treasurer, and Finance Committee on budgeting and reporting.
Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting and reporting standards.
Ensure proper insurance coverage in all areas: general liability, workers’ comp, umbrella, D&O, auto, and more.
Manage financial systems and implement process improvements for transparency and efficiency.
Provide responsive customer support to families, donors, staff, and vendors.
Implement automation tools such as online payment portals and expense management systems.
Maintain legal, insurance, and risk management documentation.
Coordinate with third-party accounting partner (Ledgers, Inc.) to ensure accurate payroll processing, PTO tracking, monthly reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Human Resources
Serve as the internal point of contact for payroll and benefits administration—including healthcare, 403(b), PTO tracking, and life/disability insurance—by providing necessary information to our third-party vendor, Ledgers Inc.
Ensure compliance with labor laws and HR policies, support hiring, onboarding/offboarding, and maintain accurate personnel records.
Conduct workers' compensation audits and manage insurance filings.
Support open enrollment and serve as point of contact for HR-related matters.
Manage organizational policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and support organizational efficiency.
What You Bring to the Role:
Bachelor’s degree required.
5+ years of experience in finance and operations, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and systems (QuickBooks required).
Experience with budgets ranging from $1M–$5M.
Proficient in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace; experience with Little Green Light and OneCause is a plus.
Familiarity with HR policies, benefits, and compliance best practices.
A strategic thinker with strong financial and operational acumen.

Compensation, Benefits, and Job Structure:
This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position based fully on-site in Wilmette, IL, with the option to work from home one day per week. The role offers a salary range of $80,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience. Compensation includes an annual holiday bonus and generous time off, with 18 PTO days and 10–12 paid holidays. Benefits also include comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as life insurance, long-term disability (LTD), and short-term disability (STD) coverage. A 403(b) retirement plan with employer match is also provided. The desired start date is as soon as possible.
